When I was 3-5 we lived in Missouri and had a big house with a basement where we'd play, even riding our Big Wheels, especially in the winter. The floor was concrete and there were wooden beam-like pillars that we'd swerve around and around.
Now I live in Italy and I have a "cantina", which is a small cellar, but no real basement :-)

Yes, we had a basement. We roller skated on the concrete floors around the support poles. When we got too loud playing in the basement, my mother would stomp her foot on the floor upstairs.
